Uff Da!

In The North–during moments of great strain or commiseration–you might hear a sigh, which comes out in the shape "oof-dah."  It's an echo of the Scandinavian heritage that basically translates to "Oh, shit.”

Because beyond this Midwestern, passive-aggressive vulgarity usually lies a formidable challenge to be undertaken with quiet tenacity – following our grandparents' less narcissistic, and more stoic example that if you simply work 'til you're proud, the final product will always speak for itself.
